Current Information:Lower Sydenham Enlisted-Blackheath On 13th July, 1916, 20th London of 141 Brigade, 47th Division, moved into the front line at Souchez just to the north of Arras. The Battalion Diary recorded that on 16th July the British artillery cut the German wire and then registered on their communication trenches and that the enemy retaliated with their own bombardment, but mentions nothing about any casualties. It does however record that there were several casualties suffered by 20th London on the previous day, 15th July, when large trench mortars hit the support line in the afternoon, and it is quite possible that this was when Reuben Eades was killed and that his death was not officially recorded until the following day. |
